The Importance of Female’s Perspective in Portrait Photography

As every photographer has their own way of seeing things, female photographers, as Vivienne Jiang believes, have their own perspective too. Other than that, she has personal goals as a professional portrait photographer. What are they? Find out more about her here!

What motivated you to be a professional Portrait Photographer?

I feel motivated to showcase what women can do. We offer something that men don’t have and we see beauty from a different perspective. As a professional photographer, I want to create art that demonstrates that uniqueness.

On the other hand, I also want women to feel more confident about themselves. Every woman is beautiful in their own way and I want to capture that beauty in my works.

As a female photographer, tell us about the challenges you faced and the achievements you are most proud of!

It’s not rare for me to be underestimated just because I am a woman so being a woman is a challenge in itself. It’s true and natural that men are better than women in some things but women also have some strengths in certain areas that men don’t. We just have to be confident to prove it to the world.

As for my achievements, I feel honoured and privileged to have worked with some high-end magazines and premium brands. It shows that they valued and appreciated my unique perspective as a woman and my skills as a photographer.

Do you have any unique style that you always want to expose in your works?

In general, photography is a way to channel my emotions. In my works, I always try to develop beauty, which can appear in many different forms, depending on the mood. Combining beauty and emotions, I can say, is my unique style. Exposing beauty in sadness, happiness, vibrant colours, black and white or high saturation is what I always want to do in my works.

What inspires you to keep on hitting that shutter button?

Inspiration is a funny thing because it can come from anywhere, even when I’m just relaxing and not trying to work or to get inspiration. However, the easiest way to find inspiration is to look at other photographers’ best works and try to understand what they did, how they did it, and whether I can replicate it in my works and style.

Who are the most notable individuals that you have ever photographed?

Every client that I ever worked with and every model that I took photographs of provided me with new experiences and unique stories. My most interesting experience was when I worked with a jewelry company for their marketing campaign and I had the chance to take a photograph of Princess Kristine de Bagration Mukhrani Royal Highness of Georgia. I mean, she’s a real princess and I am honored to have worked with her.

Another memorable experience was when I worked with Pierre Ng, an actor from the movie Crazy Rich Asians. Also, when my picture of Enzy Storia, a young, talented female celebrity, was displayed at the New York Times Square.
